We have received this report from the County Council:
The Authority is now in the possession of the Ground Investigation Report (GIR) following the on-site investigation works that ran between the 26th of July and 19th of August.
The report drew the following conclusions:
- The current failure is likely to comprise relatively shallow movement extending from the cracking in the road to the uneven ground downslope of the existing wall.
- The material encountered is typical of ground that is prone to slope failure
- Analysis indicates that there is the potential for residual (I.e. not part of the original failure) slip surfaces to form and be present on site.
Based on all the evidence gathered on site; and interpretation via the GIR the report made the following recommendations for remedial options:
- Re-grade the downslope
- Gravity Wall
- Gravity with piled foundation
- Embedded pile retaining wall
- King post wall
Each of the above options come with their own risks and associated costs, the Authority will now look into a number of these options for potential remedial solutions.
In the interim the road will remain closed and the Authority will convey timescales on the next stage following the Christmas break.
