Cawdor Quarry Update

New planning application:

You will recall the successful ‘Save Our Fields’ campaign, which fought the plan to build houses on Snitterton Fields, as part of a major housing development in Cawdor quarry. The application was granted for development in a series of phases – but with just six houses on the fields instead of 120. The flats and houses that you see in Matlock Spa Road, on the way to Sainsbury’s, are the first phase of that plan.

The developers have now submitted a new application, in which the next phase of the development proposes significantly more houses than the original application. It is now 203 units, mainly in flats, instead of the previous 108. This is obviously significantly higher density and raises a number of concerns, not least that, if approved, it may set a precedent to apply for even more houses after this phase. There is also a concern that the transfer of land promised to the Wildlife Trust has not yet occurred.

The Save Our Fields campaigners are now scrutinising this new application in order to submit any concerns from the local community. If you would like to find out more, or take part in the campaign, go to their website, saveourfields.org.
