Vacancy for Parish Clerk

Part-Time Vacancy for Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer:

We have a vacancy for the combined post of Clerk to the Parish Council and Responsible Financial Officer. Could this be you?

South Darley is a rural parish in Derbyshire Dales District, lying immediately west of
Matlock and south of the River Derwent. It consists of the small villages of Darley Bridge and Wensley and the hamlets of Oker and Snitterton. The population was 735 at the 2011 census. About two thirds of the parish lies within the Peak District National Park. The parish is predominantly residential and agricultural, although there is a large industrial plant, EcoBat, which recycles lead batteries. The Council is made up of eight Councillors and meets monthly. We are keen to forge strong community links and work closely with Derbyshire Dales and Derbyshire County Councils to maintain the Parish as a safe and rewarding place to live and to visit.

The role: As Clerk you will be required to produce agendas and minutes for the monthly meetings and take forward any actions resulting from them. You will also organise and minute two meetings a year of the EcoBat liaison group which includes attendees from EcoBat and several local Councils. As RFO you will monitor expenditure against the annual budget, producing monthly and annual summaries. You will have responsibility for overseeing the work of a part-time footpath warden. You will be the main contact point on all Council issues.

Requirements: The post requires good organisation and communication skills and you should be comfortable using IT including Word, Outlook and Excel. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential and training support and mentoring will be available for less experienced candidates. You will be a confident networker and inherit a good network of contacts that will help you get things done or offer advice and help. Working arrangements: The role is for 6 hours per week, working mainly from home, but with attendance at one evening meeting each month. You will be allowed additional hours for the EcoBat meetings. Hours are generally flexible and to suit.

Salary: The salary is within Local Council grades SCP 20-26 or £13.51-£15.83 per hour depending upon experience. You will also receive an addition monthly allowance for homeworking which is currently £18pcm. A laptop will be provided.

Application: If you would like more information please email the Chair, Cllr Brian Haymes at brian@southdarleyparishcouncil.gov.uk or you can submit your CV to the Parish Clerk at clerk@southdarleyparishcouncil.gov.uk . Closing date is Friday 10th February 2023.
