South Darley War Memorial

The parish council has added the war memorial to the Findagrave website – a worldwide memorial site for over 250 million graves. Please see: www.findagrave.com/memorial/286944443/

We have also created a virtual cemetery of the graves, cenotaphs and memorials of those who gave their lives, with photographs, inscriptions and biographies, see: www.findagrave.com/virtual-cemetery/2032984

This is a joint project: a member of the Findagrave community, James J, has kindly taken most of the churchyard photographs and created many of the churchyard memorial sites. For many inscriptions, we are grateful to Derbyshire Family History Society which transcribed all inscriptions on gravestones and other memorials in 1993. For the biographies, there are selected extracts from the books by Keith Taylor and Trevor Brown: A Derbyshire Parish at War: South Darley and the Great War 1914-1918 and A Derbyshire Parish at Peace and War: South Darley 1925-1955.
